Restrained Love Viewer 1.23.0 for the Mac

RLV 1.23 for Mac is available.

RestrainedLife is now called Restrained Love. This is due to new rules introduced by Linden Labs. The old RestrainedLife viewer will no longer work, as LL will block it at April 30th.

Download at Rapidshare (backup)

This version is a universal binary and should work with ppc and intel

RestrainedLife - How to install

[This information is for Mac users only!]

The latest viewer is available at Rapidshare [download].
Learn more about RestrainedLife (including Troubleshooting FAQ)

How to install the viewer:
The viewer is as easy to install as the original viewer:
  1. Download the latest version
  2. Unpack it / unzip it
  3. Click the RestrainedLife viewer icon to launch
You may want to drag the icon to your Applications folder and / or the Dock, though.

How to improve the graphic performance:
To improve graphics you should use the commercial graphics library libllkdu.dylib. (You might remember my old blog article about that.)
  1. Download the RestrainedLive viewer [download] and install it.
  2. Download the corresponding official SecondLife viewer (same SL release number) and install it. [download]
  3. Open the content of the official viewer application and browse for Contents/Resources/libllkdu.dylib
  4. Copy that libllkdu.dylib to the same location into your RestrainedLife application.
Your RestrainedLife viewer should now use the commercial library.

Crashes during log in
If you crash when you try to log in, please set the viewer to English language:
  1. Launch RestrainedLife viewer
  2. Press CMD-P to open the Properties menu
  3. Set language to English
  4. Apply
  5. Quit the viewer and restart it.

What about PPC Versions?
Unfortunately, since SL v1.21 I sometimes have problems to compile the viewer as universal binary or PPC. Please refer the download links about PPC versions.

How to set the viewer to RestrainedLife mode:
If you don't use the original RestrainedLife viewer but the Cool viewer, it is possible that the viewer is not set to RestrainedLife mode when you launch it for the first time. If this is the case:
  1. Go to Preferences
  2. Choose the Cool features tab
  3. Check RestrainedLife mode
  4. Restart the viewer
→ it will now launch in RestrainedLife mode
If your RestrainedLife viewer does not show the Cool features tab, you can skip these steps, for you don't use the Cool viewer.

The Cool viewer for the Mac is provided by Hyang.

What is new?
  • Regarding the RLv features, please refer to the Blog of Marine Kelley.
  • Regarding the Mac, read on:
I did something aginst the graphics issues.
Graphics should be fine by now.
Where to download?
At the usual place hopefully soon.
Until it is available there, feel free to download it at Rapidshare.

New MoPlugins supporting the new features should be out soon.
Though, I am pretty busy creating my new main shop.

Yes. I finally got my own quarter sim and am setting up a beautiful shop in a beautiful surrounding.

Have some restrained fun,
Mo.

Enhance graphics with the Restrained Life viewer (Mac)

Hi.

If you use the Restrained Life viewer on the Mac, you might suffer some graphics issues from time to time.

Some suffer more, some suffer less, I suffer most. - At least my personal impression.

So why is this, and is there anything to do about it?
Well the answer to the second question is: yes.
But let me answer the why first:

Why are there graphics issues?
The original viewer, provided by Linden Lab uses a commercial graphics library. The graphics library is the part of the software, responsible to print all the graphics on your screen.
Due to licencing, the open source viewer does not support this commercial graphics library. It uses a open source library. And this is the point. That library has some issues not solved yet. If you use it, you might see the issues in your graphics :-(

Is there something I can do?
There is. Downlad the original viewer corresponding to your Restrained Life viewer version. Open the content of the application and browse for Contents/Resources/libllkdu.dylib and copy that libllkdu.dylib to the same location into your Restrained Life application.

Is it better now?
Usually yes. I know people having no issues any more, after they did that. Unfortunately I myself still suffer quite some issues, like bad texture loading. As I told you, I suffer most.

You see, some things I tell you are truth..

Have some restrained fun,
Yours, Mo.
